Teens
5th to 12th Grade
At the current time the 5th graders, Uniteens (6th - 8th Grade), and Y.O.U.’ers (9th - 12th Grade) are all located in the same classroom. We are bonding together as a social group, and relating the lessons to everyone.
The Uniteens are going through huge physical and emotional changes. They can be unpredictable, and hard to read, as they swing between childhood and adulthood. Preteens are excited to be moving into the teen years, but also scared of the unknown. They are exploring who they really are, while still relying on their peers.
The Y.O.U.’ers are continuing to grow rapidly, and are facing constant peer pressure. They have the ability to think through problems on their own, and are wanting to be respected for who they truly are. Their emotions are often mixed between wanting to be an adult, and feeling like they can’t handle it.
The Sponsors, Heidi Jacobson and Sarah Philo, along with their Co-Sponsor Chris Steffens, help each teen meet their requirements for Unity retreats regionally and nationally. All of the Teens are required to participate in the classroom, to help with fundraisers, and to complete community service hours. As a Teen group we also have fun events together, and a lock-in once a year.
A selection of Living Curriculums will be used to gain a more metaphysical understanding of the Unity Truth Principles and Bible stories. A variety of curriculums, books, prayers, meditations and discussions will be used. These practices will give them the tools to help process their daily life issues within a safe, supportive, and loving environment. The Teens will learn to more fully trust their inner wisdom and spiritual beliefs within their every day life.
The Teen classroom is located downstairs in the Fellowship room by the kitchen.
